The
Ezeudu, who played his collegiate football at North Carolina, was originally selected by the Giants in the 2022 NFL Draft. Over the course of his tenure in New York, he made 10 starts across both guard and tackle positions. While he spent the entirety of the previous season on injured reserve, he returned to the fold this offseason on a one-year deal, spending the summer training at right tackle before transitioning to an interior guard role.
Addressing Interior Line Depth
For the Chiefs, the acquisition addresses a specific need for experienced depth along the interior of their offensive line. The team had been seeking reinforcements behind starting guards Kingsley Suamataia and Trey Smith. Prior to this trade, the Chiefs' interior backup options were limited, with three-year veteran Mike Caliendo serving as the primary experienced reserve. The team's depth had been tested during the preseason, with undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson filling in at right guard while Smith managed a hip injury.
The move provides Kansas City with a versatile piece as they finalize their 53-man roster. Currently, second-year player Hunter Nourzad has solidified his position as the primary backup to All-Pro center Creed Humphrey. Ezeudu, who sustained a minor leg injury during a preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins, is expected to return to action shortly and be available for the start of the regular season.
Giants Continue Roster Reconfiguration
This transaction marks the second time in a week that the Giants have moved an offensive lineman to accumulate future draft capital. The team recently traded guard Daniel Faalele to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2027 sixth-round pick. Giants coach John Harbaugh has indicated that the organization is actively looking to capitalize on their current depth at certain positions to build for the future.
Harbaugh noted that the team feels comfortable with their remaining interior offensive line options, which include veteran reserve Aaron Stinnie, as well as Lucas Patrick and Bryan Hudson, both of whom have demonstrated the ability to play center and guard. As the Giants continue to evaluate their roster, the front office remains open to further opportunities to acquire draft picks should the right circumstances arise.
