The move follows reports that starting quarterback Lamar Jackson is facing a potential season-ending thumb injury that will require surgery. Compounding the team's depth issues, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley has also been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a turf toe injury. With the roster depleted, the team is set to start undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano in their upcoming Thursday night clash against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Cardinals Shift Direction as Brissett Heads to Baltimore
For the Arizona Cardinals, the trade marks a significant shift in their own quarterback hierarchy. Earlier this week, the organization announced that Gardner Minshew would take over as the starting quarterback moving forward. Following that decision, the team designated rookie Carson Bench as the primary backup, effectively relegating Brissett to the third-string position before the trade discussions began.
Brissett now transitions to a Baltimore squad desperate for experience and stability under center. While the Ravens prepare for their immediate challenge against Jacksonville with Fagnano, the acquisition of Brissett provides a necessary veteran presence as the team attempts to manage the fallout from the injuries to both Jackson and Huntley. The transaction remains subject to finalization, but all signs point to the veteran passer joining the Ravens' active roster in the coming days.
