The
Milton will take over the starting role from Tanner McKee, who had held the position for the previous three games. The move comes as the Eagles look to snap a six-game losing streak that has left them at the bottom of the NFC East standings with a 2-6 record.
A New Direction Under Center
The transition to Milton follows a period of instability for the Eagles' quarterback room. The team originally signed Milton from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad on October 16, just one day before placing franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve. Hurts was sidelined indefinitely after medical evaluations revealed multiple blood clots in both of his lungs, an issue that is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the season.
Milton, who was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft, brings limited experience to the starting role. He spent the previous season in Dallas as a backup to Dak Prescott, appearing in four games as a reserve. After being traded to the Cowboys in April 2025, Milton participated in a training camp competition for the backup job against Sam Howell. Although he was initially waived, the Cowboys re-signed him to their practice squad shortly thereafter.
Evaluating the Offensive Transition
The Eagles' coaching staff is looking for a spark after a challenging stretch of results. Tanner McKee, who filled in during the recent three-game span, recorded a 63.2% completion rate, throwing for 638 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. With the team currently sitting in last place in the division, the coaching staff is turning to Milton to lead the offense against the Giants in Week 9.
