Seahawks Rule Out Sam Darnold for Cardinals Clash Due to Quad Injury

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has been ruled out for Sunday's upcoming matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed the news on Wednesday, noting that the signal-caller is currently sidelined with a quad injury sustained during the final stages of Monday night's defeat to the Chicago Bears.

While the injury will keep Darnold out of action this weekend, the team has opted against placing him on injured reserve. Macdonald described the quarterback's status as week-to-week, indicating that the organization is taking a cautious approach to his recovery process following the setback earlier this week.

Drew Lock Returns to Starting Role

With Darnold unavailable, the Seahawks are turning to Drew Lock to lead the offense against Arizona. Lock, who has been recovering from an elbow injury that forced him to miss the previous two contests, is now slated to return to the starting lineup. Jalen Milroe will serve as the backup quarterback for the encounter.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Macdonald expressed confidence in the team's quarterback depth. He confirmed that the coaching staff is preparing both Lock and Milroe to ensure the team is ready for the challenge. The Seahawks are looking to rebound after their recent loss to the Bears, which brought the defending Super Bowl champions to a 4-4 record for the current season.

Lock brings previous experience as a starter for Seattle this year, having stepped in earlier in the season when Darnold dealt with a glute injury following the opening night victory over the New England Patriots. Lock successfully guided the team to wins in both of those starts, providing the coaching staff with a level of comfort as they navigate this latest injury hurdle.
