Utah Jazz Suffer Double Injury Blow as Markkanen and Jackson Exit Early Against Grizzlies

The Utah Jazz faced a difficult night on Monday, not only falling to a 110-105 defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies but also losing two key forwards to injury before halftime. Both Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. were forced to exit the contest early, leaving the team shorthanded for the remainder of the evening.

The setbacks began early in the first quarter when Markkanen headed to the locker room with 5:58 remaining. The forward sustained a right wrist injury after becoming entangled with Cam Boozer and Jackson on the perimeter, resulting in his arm being caught between the two players. He concluded his night with two points in six minutes of action, having entered the game averaging 20.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists through Utah’s opening three fixtures.

Medical Evaluations Pending for Jazz Duo

The situation worsened in the second quarter when Jackson left the floor with 10:04 left on the clock due to a right knee injury. Before his departure, Jackson had contributed six points, three rebounds, and two assists across 10 minutes. He had been averaging 19.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in the early stages of the season.

Following the conclusion of the game, Jazz head coach Will Hardy confirmed that both players are scheduled to undergo MRIs on Tuesday to determine the severity of their respective injuries. Hardy noted that the team would have a clearer understanding of their status once the imaging results are available. The loss of both players marks a significant concern for the Jazz, particularly given their recent injury histories. Markkanen has struggled with availability in recent seasons, while Jackson’s previous campaign with Utah was limited to just three appearances before he underwent season-ending surgery on his left knee.
