Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is facing an extended period on the sidelines after it was confirmed he will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee. The injury, which has been described as an ailment in the same leg that troubled him during the previous campaign, is expected to keep the guard out of action for up to two months.

The news comes as a significant blow to the Timberwolves, who have relied heavily on Edwards during the opening stretch of the season. The injury became a focal point during the team's recent schedule, with the player visibly struggling during Minnesota's home opener victory against the Toronto Raptors. Despite the discomfort, Edwards remained in the lineup for Monday's clash against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

A challenging turnaround for the Timberwolves

Prior to the announcement, Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch had characterized the injury as a daily situation, expressing optimism that it would not develop into a long-term concern. Edwards showed remarkable resilience in his most recent appearance, logging a season-high 41 minutes of court time. He delivered a standout offensive performance, contributing 47 points in a narrow 127-125 overtime defeat to Cleveland.

The timing of the injury is particularly difficult given the career-best form Edwards had displayed in the early stages of the season. Through his first four games, he had been averaging 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, while maintaining a 48% shooting accuracy. His absence will force the Timberwolves to adjust their rotation as they prepare for their upcoming home game against the Golden State Warriors.

Edwards has a history of managing lower-body issues. Last season, he navigated a bout of runner's knee, and during the previous playoffs, he dealt with a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise. While he successfully avoided ligament damage during those previous incidents, this latest procedure marks a significant setback for the 3-1 Timberwolves as they look to maintain their momentum in the early part of the campaign.
