Stephen Curry expected to feature in Warriors season opener against Lakers

The Golden State Warriors are anticipating that Stephen Curry will be available for their season-opening clash against the Los Angeles Lakers this Wednesday. The star guard experienced a scare during an open scrimmage on Sunday when he tweaked his right ankle, prompting him to leave the court prematurely.

Despite the initial concern caused by his exit, the team has received positive updates regarding his recovery. Curry participated fully in Monday morning's practice session, and head coach Steve Kerr confirmed that the player indicated he was feeling fine shortly after the incident occurred.

Injury recovery and team outlook

During Sunday's scrimmage, Curry appeared to roll his ankle while executing a dribble move from the right wing. The veteran guard immediately halted play and headed to the locker room, visibly limping and showing frustration. However, the medical staff has since cleared him to continue his preparations, with the expectation that he will be ready for the upcoming contest in Los Angeles following a final practice on Tuesday.

Managing Curry's health remains a priority for the organization as he approaches his 39th birthday in March. The team has already adjusted his training regimen to address a persistent right knee issue that sidelined him for 27 games during the previous campaign. Coach Kerr has noted that the coaching staff intends to limit Curry's practice time throughout the season to help manage his overall workload.

Squad availability concerns

The Warriors are heading into the new season facing several personnel challenges. The team is currently without starting wings Moses Moody and Jimmy Butler III, both of whom are undergoing rehabilitation for significant knee injuries and are not expected to return until the middle of the season. Furthermore, starting center Kristaps Porzingis remains sidelined indefinitely due to a private health matter and will not accompany the squad to Los Angeles.

Adding to the team's injury concerns, starting guard Brandin Podziemski was absent from Monday's practice session due to lower back tightness. His status for the season opener remains uncertain, leaving his availability for the matchup against the Lakers as questionable.
