India Sweeps Men’s Discus Throw Podium at Asian Para Games

India delivered a commanding display of strength at the Asian Para Games, securing a clean sweep of the medals in the men's discus throw F43/F44/F62/F64 final. Devender Kumar led the charge to claim the gold medal, while teammates Rakesh and Pardeep Kumar rounded out the podium with silver and bronze respectively.

The event, which featured athletes across multiple classification categories, was decided by the Raza point system. This scoring method allows for fair competition by converting physical performances into a points total, ensuring that athletes with varying degrees of disability can be ranked against one another regardless of the raw distance achieved.

Dominant Performance Under the Raza Point System

Devender Kumar secured the top spot on the podium by accumulating 781 Raza points. His path to victory was paved by a second-attempt throw of 49.71 metres, which ultimately proved to be the decisive mark. After opening with a 48.85-metre effort, he struggled with fouls in the third, fourth, and sixth rounds, but a fifth-round throw of 45.20 metres helped solidify his standing.

Rakesh followed closely to take the silver medal with a total of 771 points. His best performance of the day came in the fourth round, where he recorded a distance of 49.35 metres. Having started his campaign with a 47.87-metre throw, he remained consistent throughout the final to maintain his position ahead of the rest of the field.

Pardeep Kumar completed the Indian sweep by securing bronze with 669 points. Competing in the F64 category, Pardeep actually produced the longest throw of the trio, reaching a personal best of 51.15 metres during his second attempt. Despite his superior distance, the intricacies of the Raza point system placed him third overall. His series included a strong third-round effort of 50.83 metres, alongside marks of 46.95, 46.16, 48.80, and 47.84 metres across his other attempts.
