Hockey India reveals teams for U18 men's and women's series in Australia.

Hockey India has officially unveiled the 24-member squads for the upcoming Under-18 men's and women's hockey series against Australia, scheduled to take place from May 15 to 20 in Bhopal. This four-match series is a crucial component of the teams' preparations for the U-18 Asia Cup, which will be held in Kakamigahara, Japan, from May 29 to June 6.

The selection of the squads followed a rigorous evaluation process during a national coaching camp, where an initial group of 42 players was assessed for their match fitness and tactical skills. Ketan Kushwaha has been appointed as the captain of the men's team, while Sweety Kujur will lead the women's side.

Coaches Emphasize Importance of Series

According to Sardar Singh, the coach of the men's team, the matches against Australia are more than just practice; they serve as a critical test of the players' match temperament and tactical discipline. "After a productive week in the camp, we have identified the 24 players whom we believe are ready for international exposure. Ketan is a natural leader, and I am keen to see how this group handles the pace and pressure of the Australian style before we head to the U-18 Asia Cup in Japan," Singh stated.

Rani Rampal, the head coach of the women's team, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the significance of the series. "We have pruned the squad to 24 players who have shown the greatest consistency and growth during the camp. Playing four matches against a top-tier side like Australia in Bhopal will give us a clear picture of our strengths and the areas that need adjustment. This series is the ultimate dress rehearsal for the girls before the Asia Cup," Rampal remarked.

Squad Details

The men's squad includes goalkeepers Sawan Kumar, Ayush Rajak, and Vishal Bada, with defenders such as Ansh Bahutra and Ashish Tani Purti. Midfielders include Premchand Soy and Rahul Yadav, while forwards feature Ketan Kushwaha, who will captain the team.

On the women's side, goalkeepers Mahak Parihar and Khili Kumari are set to defend the net, while defenders like Sugan Sanga and Nilam Topno will fortify the backline. The midfield will be bolstered by players such as Shruti Kumari and Diya, with Sweety Kujur leading the forward line as captain.
