Administrative instability has surfaced within
The notice, sent on Thursday, calls for the 120th Executive Committee meeting to take place on October 6, 2026, at the Hockey India headquarters in New Delhi. According to the communication, the primary objectives of the session are to ratify the agenda from a previous meeting and deliberate on the upcoming elections for Hockey Odisha.
Conflict Over Governance and Authority
The legitimacy of the proposed meeting remains a significant point of contention. President Dilip Tirkey has maintained that the gathering is invalid, asserting that the authority to convene such executive board meetings rests solely with the president. This disagreement mirrors a similar dispute from a previous meeting in New Delhi, which Tirkey also labeled as unauthorized.
The agenda for the proposed October 6 meeting also includes a discussion regarding a police complaint filed by Tirkey last week. In that complaint, the Hockey India president alleged instances of fraud and harassment involving certain federation officials. The inclusion of this sensitive matter in the meeting notice further highlights the widening rift between the leadership factions.
Disputed Elections and Ongoing Friction
Beyond the immediate conflict over meeting protocols, the administrative tension is compounded by disputes surrounding the Hockey Odisha elections. Tirkey, who serves as the president of the state unit, finds himself at the center of this controversy as the national federation attempts to navigate the internal friction. While the Indian hockey squads continue to perform on the field at the Asian Games, the off-field governance issues remain unresolved, with both sides holding firm on their interpretation of the federation's constitutional authority.
