West Ham Supporters Cheer Israeli Winger with Controversial Chant, Club Responds

West Ham United has issued a strong warning to its fans regarding the use of an “offensive and divisive” chant directed at winger Manor Solomon, following an incident during their recent Championship match against Burnley. The club acknowledged that some supporters sang a chant that included an anti-Palestinian sentiment during the 2-2 draw at Turf Moor on Sunday.

The controversial chant referenced Solomon’s identity as an Israeli international and included derogatory remarks about Palestine. In response, West Ham released a statement emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable and detrimental to the club's image. They urged fans to conduct themselves in a manner that fosters a welcoming atmosphere for all supporters, highlighting the importance of representing the club positively.

Commitment to Inclusivity

In their statement, West Ham reiterated their dedication to creating an inclusive environment for all fans, regardless of their backgrounds. The club stressed that every supporter should feel safe and respected while enjoying the game, free from discrimination or abuse. “We remain committed to ensuring that everyone feels safe, respected, and included,” the statement read, reinforcing the idea that support for the team should not devolve into hostility or division.

Solomon, who joined West Ham from Tottenham this summer, has a notable history in football, having made 49 appearances for the Israeli national team. His career began at Maccabi Petah Tikva, followed by a successful stint at Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine. He also had a loan spell at Fulham and was part of the Leeds United team that won the Championship in the 2024-25 season, securing promotion to the Premier League. His recent transfer marks a return to the Championship, where he previously played with Leeds.

Addressing Fan Behavior

The club's warning comes as West Ham aims to start their season on a positive note, both on and off the field. Solomon has been a focal point of public discourse, facing both criticism and support for his vocal stance on social media regarding Israel amid ongoing conflicts. The club has previously encountered backlash from some fans over his signing and has taken measures to manage comments on social media posts related to him.
