Manchester City Poised to Acquire 18-Year-Old Prodigy for €100 Million

Manchester City is on the verge of finalizing a significant transfer, reportedly agreeing to a €100 million (approximately Rs. 1,117 crore) deal with French club LOSC Lille for the acquisition of 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. According to sources in the English media, Bouaddi is set to sign a four-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, with an option for an additional year. This move is poised to shatter Lille’s previous transfer record, which was established when Nicolas Pépé was sold to Arsenal for €80 million in 2019.

Rising Star in Midfield

Bouaddi, who represents Morocco on the international stage despite being born in France, has emerged as one of the most promising midfield talents globally. His performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup was particularly noteworthy, where he showcased his skills against Brazil’s seasoned midfield, demonstrating his ability to compete at the highest level. Known for his tenacity and maturity beyond his years, Bouaddi has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. However, he had reportedly reached an agreement with Manchester City weeks prior to this announcement.

The addition of Bouaddi is seen as crucial for Manchester City, especially in light of their recent squad challenges. In their Premier League opener against Bournemouth for the 2026-27 season, City’s starting lineup featured a significant number of defenders, highlighting a pressing need for midfield reinforcements. The team’s lineup included Gianluigi Donnarumma; Abdukodir Khusanov, Rúben Dias (C), Marc Guéhi, Joško Gvardiol; Rico Lewis, Elliot Anderson, and Nico O’Reilly; with Antoine Semenyo, Phil Foden, and Erling Haaland leading the attack. Notably, six players in the starting eleven primarily play in defensive roles, with Lewis and O’Reilly filling in as makeshift midfielders.

Strategic Moves Amid Departures

This transfer comes at a critical time for City, who have recently lost key player Rodri to Barcelona. Additionally, there are ongoing rumors regarding Nico González’s potential move to Newcastle United. In light of these developments, Manchester City is also reportedly exploring a deal for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, further indicating their commitment to strengthening the squad ahead of the new season.
