Harry Kane Declares His Passion for IPL and India as Ballon d'Or Discussions Heat Up

In a significant moment for Bayern Munich, the club's striker Harry Kane is poised to potentially break a 45-year drought for the Ballon d'Or, a prestigious award last claimed by a Bayern player in 1981. The last recipient from the club was Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who won the accolade in both 1980 and 1981. Since then, notable players like Franck Ribery and Robert Lewandowski have come close to winning the title, but both have faced disappointment, leading many fans to believe they were unjustly overlooked. This year, Kane is emerging as a strong contender among a competitive field that includes stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Rodri, and Lionel Messi, with support for him even reaching fans in India.

During a recent visit to Germany, Kane expressed his appreciation for the unique bond he shares with fans in India, attributing it to his admiration for the Indian Premier League (IPL). He conveyed his gratitude for their support and expressed a desire to visit the country someday. "Thank you very much. You know, I think I have a special relationship with the fans in India. I appreciate all their support. Would love to go out there one day. They know I'm a big IPL fan as well," Kane remarked, highlighting the significance of this connection.

When discussing the Ballon d'Or, Kane emphasized his commitment to achieving success with Bayern Munich, particularly in the UEFA Champions League, which he regards as the ultimate goal. "It's the new season now, and I wanted to start this season with a trophy. Last year was incredible on many levels, from a personal level and as a team. Our aim is to push now. We want obviously the Champions League as the big aim going into every season," he stated, reflecting on his aspirations following a strong performance that led England to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

As the Champions League 2026-27 draw approaches, Kane identified Paris Saint-Germain as the team to beat, given their recent back-to-back victories. "I think PSG will be favourites, obviously winning it back-to-back. But of course Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, all the top teams," he noted. Kane acknowledged the challenges ahead, emphasizing the need for focus and determination as the team aims to build on last season's efforts, which ended in a narrow defeat to PSG. "Last season is done now, it's about pushing this year, and obviously that's a big goal of ours," he concluded.
