Manchester City have officially completed the signing of teenage Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille. The transfer, confirmed by the French club on Wednesday, is valued at 100 million euros, equivalent to approximately 86 million pounds or 117 million dollars. The 18-year-old has committed to a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, marking a significant investment for the Premier League side.

The arrival of the highly-rated youngster follows a period of substantial transition within the City squad. The club recently offloaded Spain’s World Cup-winning captain Rodri to Barcelona and sanctioned the departure of Tijjani Reijnders to Al-Qadsiah. With Nico Gonzalez also expected to exit the club, manager Enzo Maresca has prioritised the rejuvenation of his central midfield options since taking over from Pep Guardiola at the conclusion of last season.

A New Chapter for Bouaddi and City

Bouaddi arrives in England with a growing reputation, having been one of the standout performers during the recent World Cup. His contributions were instrumental in helping Morocco reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, where they were eventually eliminated by France. He is set to partner England’s Elliot Anderson in the newly configured Manchester City midfield.

Reflecting on his move, Bouaddi expressed his admiration for the club’s philosophy. In a statement released on the official Manchester City website, he described the transfer as a special day for himself and his family. He noted that he has followed the team’s progress for many years and is drawn to their style of play, which he believes is built on quality football and a winning mentality.

Midfield Recruitment Strategy

The acquisition of Bouaddi represents a major step in Maresca’s tactical restructuring. While the club has successfully secured the Moroccan international, they have also been linked with other high-profile targets. Reports indicate that City maintained an interest in Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, though a potential deal stalled after the London club set a deadline for bids on the 120-million-pound-rated Argentine, which passed without an agreement.

Manchester City’s start to the current campaign has been mixed. Following a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield, the team responded with a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth in their Premier League opener this past Sunday. With the addition of Bouaddi, the club will look to build further momentum as they navigate their domestic and international commitments.
