Lamine Yamal Stars as Barcelona Maintain Perfect La Liga Start

Barcelona maintained their flawless start to the La Liga campaign on Sunday, securing a hard-fought 4-2 victory away to Levante. The win ensures Hansi Flick’s side remains at the summit of the table, re-establishing a three-point cushion over Real Madrid following the latter's victory against Rayo Vallecano the previous day.

The match at the Ciutat de Valencia stadium saw the visitors dominate the opening exchanges, with Xavi Espart netting his first goal for the club just five minutes into the contest. The 19-year-old, deployed at left-back by Flick this season, struck from the edge of the box with the aid of a deflection. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal doubled the advantage in the 19th minute, tapping into an empty net after Raphinha rounded goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to set up the chance.

Yamal Brilliance and Late Drama

Yamal continued his prolific form shortly after the interval, winning a penalty after being brought down by Aissa Mandi. The Spain winger stepped up to convert the spot-kick, marking his seventh goal in just four appearances across all competitions. Despite the comfortable lead, Barcelona’s defensive composure wavered in the closing stages, allowing Levante a route back into the game.

Ivan Romero capitalised on an error from Espart to pull one back, and Roger Brugue added a second following a mistake by Marc Bernal, setting up a tense finish. However, substitute Karim Adeyemi ensured the points for the visitors in stoppage time, producing a dynamic solo run through the Levante defence before beating Ryan to seal the 4-2 result.

Reflecting on the performance, manager Hansi Flick acknowledged the team's struggles in the second half while expressing satisfaction with the final outcome. Defender Eric Garcia echoed these sentiments, noting that the team’s lapse in concentration nearly proved costly against a side that had been unbeaten in their previous eight home matches.

Atletico Madrid Secure Late Victory

In other La Liga action, Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad. Despite the absence of Julian Alvarez due to a muscle injury, Diego Simeone’s squad broke the deadlock in the 84th minute through an Alejandro Grimaldo penalty. Jonathan David then registered his first goal for the club in the 90th minute, before Giuliano Simeone added a third deep into stoppage time to complete the win.

Elsewhere, the matches between Celta Vigo and Malaga, as well as Getafe and Deportivo La Coruna, both concluded in 1-1 draws.
