Kylian Mbappe Returns to France Squad for Nations League Deciders

France captain Kylian Mbappe has been named in Zinedine Zidane’s squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Italy and Turkey. The Real Madrid forward returns to the international fold after a knee injury sustained during the September international window sidelined him for France's previous three matches.

Mbappe, who netted the decisive goal in Zidane’s managerial debut against Turkey on September 25, has regained his fitness and form at the club level. Since returning to action, the forward has been prolific, registering eight goals in seven appearances across La Liga and the Champions League.

New Faces and Tactical Adjustments

Alongside the return of the captain, Zidane has handed a maiden senior call-up to Paris FC’s Pablo Pagis. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, son of former Marseille player Mickael Pagis, has been rewarded for his standout performances this season. Zidane noted that the inclusion was partly due to the unavailability of Maghnes Akliouche, describing Pagis as an interesting and distinct profile he is eager to evaluate at the international level.

The squad announcement also features several changes to the defensive and midfield units. Aurelien Tchouameni returns to the midfield, replacing Manu Kone, while Leny Yoro and Malo Gusto have been brought into the defensive setup. These changes come as France navigates the absence of several regulars, including Ousmane Dembele, Maghnes Akliouche, Esteban Lepaul, and the injured William Saliba.

Nations League Context

France currently leads Nations League Group A1 with 10 points from four matches, holding a three-point advantage over Italy. Zidane’s side is set to face Italy in Milan on November 12, followed by a home fixture against Turkey in Bordeaux three days later. These final group-stage matches will determine the standings, with the top two teams in the group securing a place in the quarter-finals scheduled for next March. During Mbappe's recent absence, France recorded two victories over Belgium and a draw against Italy.
