East Bengal Reclaims Full Club Control Following Emami Investment Exit

East Bengal has officially regained full control of its football operations following the departure of the Emami Group from its investment and management role. The transition, which was confirmed on Tuesday, comes just two days after the club secured its 17th Durand Cup title in a dominant performance against Mohun Bagan.

Under the terms of the new arrangement, all shares and voting rights previously held by Emami have been transferred back to the club. Despite stepping away from the investment side of the partnership, Emami has confirmed it will remain associated with the organization as a sponsor, pledging continued support for the club’s future sporting ambitions.

A New Chapter Following Durand Cup Success

The restructuring follows a period of uncertainty regarding the partnership, which had been the subject of intense speculation since the conclusion of the previous Indian Super League season. Reports had previously indicated that differences between the club management and the investment group regarding operational issues had created friction, leading to questions about the long-term future of the collaboration.

Visual cues had hinted at this shifting dynamic throughout the season, most notably when the Emami logo was absent from the team's iconic red-and-gold jerseys at the start of the campaign. However, the logo reappeared in a reduced size during the Durand Cup final, signaling a potential change in the nature of the relationship before the formal announcement was made.

Building on Recent Sporting Achievements

The administrative shift arrives at a high point for the club, which is currently celebrating a historic return to form on the pitch. On Sunday, August 23, East Bengal secured a resounding 4-1 victory over rivals Mohun Bagan to lift the Durand Cup. The win was highlighted by a hat-trick from Edmund Lalrindika, marking the club's 17th title in the competition and ending a 22-year drought for the trophy, which they last claimed in 2004.

Looking ahead, the club is preparing for a new phase of competition, with both the men’s and women’s teams having successfully qualified for the Champions League. Emami expressed its pride in the recent achievements of the players and officials, stating that it remains committed to the growth of Indian football as it transitions into its new role as a sponsor.
