On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that Jayasuriya received an official reprimand along with one demerit point for violating the ICC Code of Conduct. The breach occurred during the second day of play, specifically under Article 2.2, which addresses the misuse of cricket equipment and related items during international matches. This reprimand marks Jayasuriya's first offense within a 24-month period, as confirmed by the ICC.

The incident unfolded at the conclusion of the second day's play when Jayasuriya was dismissed leg-before wicket by Indian spinner Manav Suthar. Frustrated by his dismissal, he struck the boundary wedges with his bat while returning to the dressing room. Following the incident, Jayasuriya admitted to the offense and accepted the proposed sanction from Andy Pycroft, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, thus negating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was brought forth by the on-field umpires, including Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, along with third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella.

Jayasuriya's reprimand follows the earlier sanctions imposed on Jaiswal and Fernando, who were penalized for their altercation on the first day of the Test.
