East Zone set a formidable first-innings total of 467, largely thanks to Shahbaz Ahmed's impressive 167 runs off 244 deliveries, which included 17 boundaries and four sixes. Sudip Kumar Gharami also made a significant contribution, scoring 146 runs from 185 balls, featuring 25 fours and a six. Despite a shaky start at 138 for five, the duo's partnership proved crucial in stabilizing the innings and propelling East Zone to a commanding score. Their efforts ensured that East Zone finished their innings at 467 runs after 112.5 overs.
Bowling Dominance Leads to North East Zone's Collapse
North East Zone struggled to cope with the relentless bowling attack from East Zone, managing to score only 111 runs in their first innings, bowled out in just 42.5 overs. Abhijit Sarkar was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets for just 20 runs in 9.5 overs, while Shahbaz contributed with three wickets for 20 runs. Arpit Bhatewara was the top scorer for North East Zone with 32 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered against the disciplined bowling.
Forced to follow on, North East Zone faced further difficulties, quickly finding themselves at 10 for one. Pheiroijam Jotin provided some resistance with a score of 39, while Akash Choudhary and Kishan Lyngdoh added 27 and 25 runs, respectively. However, Anukul Roy's exceptional bowling performance, which included five wickets for 37 runs in 15 overs, dismantled the North East batting order. While East Zone's younger bowlers shone with their disciplined lengths and consistent breakthroughs, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami had a quieter outing, failing to take a wicket in either innings.
