Sri Lanka cricketer expresses gratitude for Yashasvi Jaiswal's IPL commitment before losing his wicket - Watch the moment.

In a dramatic turn of events during the opening Test match in Galle, India edged closer to victory on Wednesday as Sri Lanka struggled to chase a daunting target of 372 runs. The match saw a light-hearted exchange between Indian player Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan batsman Niroshan Dickwella, which quickly turned serious as the latter was dismissed shortly after their banter.

Friendly Banter Turns Competitive

During the 60th over, Jaiswal, positioned at square leg, encouraged Dickwella to take a more aggressive approach against the Indian bowlers. "Come on yaar, there were a lot of shots in the first innings. We need to see something, come on," Jaiswal urged, challenging Dickwella to showcase his batting skills. Dickwella, initially taken aback, responded with a simple "Yes?"

Jaiswal continued to push, saying, "Yes, I want to see. Come on, show me. Hit him there," while gesturing towards deep square leg. Dickwella, however, remained nonchalant, replying, "No requirement. Take me (to) IPL, then I'll hit." To which Jaiswal enthusiastically responded, "We will, we will. 100%. Come on, hit him a six, I'll take you to the IPL." Dickwella's light-hearted "Thank you" was the last word exchanged before the game took a decisive turn.

India's Path to Victory

On the very last ball of the over, Dickwella attempted to cut a delivery through the off side but ended up edging it to the wicketkeeper, marking his dismissal and leaving Sri Lanka in a precarious position at 175 for six as they headed into lunch on the fifth day. This wicket was a significant blow to Sri Lanka's hopes, as they were already struggling to keep pace with the required run rate.

Earlier in the match, Indian bowler Ravindra Jadeja had made a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva, who had scored a resilient 59 runs. Jadeja's wicket had halted Sri Lanka's steady progress, further solidifying India's grip on the Test match. With only four wickets remaining for India to claim victory, the pressure mounted on the Sri Lankan side as they sought to avoid defeat in their home ground.
