Nath steers UAE to impressive victory

The United Arab Emirates secured a commanding five-wicket victory over the Netherlands in Match 143 of the ICC CWC League 2, successfully chasing down a target of 264 at the ICC Academy in Dubai. The win was anchored by a masterful performance from Akshdeep Nath, whose 99 off 88 balls proved the difference in a high-stakes encounter.

The match began with the Netherlands opting to bat first after winning the toss. The Dutch side built a solid foundation, posting 263/4 from their allotted 50 overs. Max O'Dowd was the standout performer for the visitors, anchoring the innings with a composed 106 off 119 balls. He found excellent support in captain Scott Edwards, who contributed a vital 94 off 95 deliveries. Despite their efforts, the UAE bowling attack remained disciplined, led by Aayan Afzal Khan, who returned impressive figures of 3/48 from his 10 overs to keep the scoring rate in check.

A calculated response under pressure

Facing a challenging target of 264, the UAE chase suffered an immediate setback when Muhammad Waseem fell early, leaving the hosts at 22/2 in just 2.4 overs. The turning point of the match arrived as the middle order steadied the ship, with Akshdeep Nath taking control of the innings. His aggressive yet controlled knock of 99 off 88 balls shifted the momentum firmly back in favour of the home side.

Nath received valuable support from Adeeb Usmani, as the pair navigated the Dutch bowling attack with precision. The UAE eventually reached their target with five wickets in hand, finishing on 266/5. While the Netherlands had contributions from Bas de Leede, the UAE’s ability to recover from their early collapse and maintain a steady scoring rate proved decisive. Akshdeep Nath was deservedly named Player of the Match for his match-winning contribution, capping off a memorable performance in the ICC CWC League 2 series.
