Ireland fast bowler
The victory was crucial for the visitors, as it successfully leveled the series at 2-2. After setting a competitive target of 298 runs, Ireland relied on Moondra’s precision and pace to stifle the Namibian chase, ensuring the series remains alive heading into the final match.
A new benchmark for Irish bowling
Moondra’s figures of 6/26 established a new record for the best bowling performance by an Irish player in an international innings. He surpassed the previous benchmark set by Josh Little, who recorded 6/36 against Zimbabwe in Harare in December 2023. By conceding 10 fewer runs than Little while securing the same number of wickets, Moondra has cemented his place in the record books.
The Indian-origin bowler, who earned his international debut for Ireland earlier this year in a T20I against India, has now become the third Irish player to record a six-wicket haul in the ODI format. Furthermore, he is the fifth Irish cricketer across all international formats to achieve this milestone. While Andy McBrine remains the only player from Ireland to have secured multiple six-wicket hauls in ODIs, Moondra’s latest display is statistically the most efficient of its kind for his country.
Context and the series decider
Beyond the national record, Moondra’s spell ranks as the second-best bowling effort ever recorded against Namibia in international cricket. The top spot remains held by Australian legend Glenn McGrath, who famously took 7/15 during the 2003 ODI World Cup in Potchefstroom.
With the series now locked at 2-2, the momentum has shifted toward the final encounter. Both teams are scheduled to return to the High Performance Oval in Windhoek on Sunday, November 1, for the series-deciding fifth ODI. Ireland will look to carry the confidence from this comprehensive win into the final showdown, while Namibia will aim to regroup after being bowled out in the fourth match.
