According to the official statement from the sport's governing body, the sample collected on September 8, 2025, contained a metabolite of mesterolone, an anabolic steroid known to increase testosterone levels. Asif has formally admitted to the breach of Article 2.1 of the code and reached a resolution agreement with both the ICC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Sanction Details and Return to Play
The ban has been backdated to the date of the sample collection, September 8, 2025, and is scheduled to remain in effect until December 7, 2026. While the suspension prevents him from participating in competitive fixtures, the ICC has outlined a phased return for the player. Asif will be permitted to resume training with a team or utilize the facilities of an ICC Member organization starting October 8, 2026, with his full eligibility for competitive cricket restored on December 8, 2026.
In addition to the suspension, the ICC has disqualified all of Asif's individual results achieved between September 8, 2025, and the commencement of his provisional suspension on December 29, 2025. This ruling includes the forfeiture of any medals, points, or prize money earned during that period.
