Senamontree leads Thailand to clinical victory
Thailand secured a decisive 37-run victory over Bhutan in Match 21 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Sub Regional Qualifier A, held at the
Thailand’s innings was built on steady contributions throughout the top and middle order. Chaloemwong Chatphaisan anchored the effort with a composed 37 off 34 balls, while Chanchai Pengkumta provided valuable support, chipping in with 25 runs from 22 deliveries. Despite the best efforts of Bhutan’s bowlers, led by Tashi Phuntsho who returned impressive figures of 2/20 from his four overs, Thailand managed to post 134/8 by the end of their 20 overs.
Bhutan collapse under pressure
Chasing 135 for victory, Bhutan’s pursuit never gained the necessary momentum. The innings got off to a difficult start as they lost two early wickets, putting the pressure firmly on the middle order. Tenjin Rabgey attempted to stabilize the chase, top-scoring for his side with 43 off 43 balls, with Gakul Ghalley offering some resistance. However, the required run rate proved too steep as Thailand’s bowling attack remained disciplined.
The turning point of the match arrived when Nopphon Senamontree clean bowled Ranjung Mikyo Dorji, effectively dismantling Bhutan’s hopes of a comeback. Senamontree was virtually unplayable, finishing with remarkable figures of 5/10 from his four overs. His spell, combined with a quick-fire 10 off 6 balls earlier in the day, ensured he was the standout performer. Bhutan were eventually bowled out for 97, handing Thailand a comfortable win in the qualifier series.
