Muhammad Atif Century Powers Saudi Arabia to Dominant Win Over Maldives

Atif Masterclass Sets Up Commanding Total

Saudi Arabia delivered a clinical performance at the YSD-UKM Cricket Oval in Bangi, securing a comprehensive 125-run victory over the Maldives in Match 15 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Sub Regional Qualifier B. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Saudi Arabia posted a formidable 194/5, anchored by a spectacular individual display from Muhammad Atif.

Atif was the undisputed architect of the innings, carving out a magnificent 100 off just 58 balls. His ability to find the boundary consistently allowed Saudi Arabia to dictate terms from the outset. He found excellent support from Usman Khalid, who provided a late-innings surge with a blistering 39 off only 15 deliveries. While the Maldives bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, Iqbal Sheraz managed to provide some resistance, finishing with figures of 2/24 from his two overs.

Maldives Collapse Under Pressure

Chasing a daunting target of 195, the Maldives innings never found its rhythm. The Saudi Arabian bowling attack maintained relentless pressure, ensuring the required run rate climbed rapidly from the very first over. The turning point of the chase arrived in the 7th over when Azyan Farhath, who had been the most composed batter for his side, fell with the team score on 24. His departure for 18 off 17 balls effectively signaled the end of any realistic hope for the Maldives.

Following the loss of Farhath, the Maldives batting lineup crumbled, eventually being bundled out for just 69. Jayamal Yapa offered some resistance, but the Saudi Arabian bowlers were clinical in cleaning up the tail. The victory was a collective effort, with Muhammad Atif and Zain Ul Abidin standing out as key performers alongside the disciplined bowling unit. The result serves as a significant statement for Saudi Arabia in the ongoing qualifier tournament, highlighting their dominance with both bat and ball.
