Shikhar Dhawan to Pursue Legal Action Over Unauthorized Use of Name in Franchise League

Former India international cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has issued a firm denial regarding his involvement in the World T20 Continent Cup, revealing that organizers of the tournament have utilized his name without his knowledge or consent. The veteran batter took to social media on October 13 to clarify his position and distance himself from the competition, which had previously listed him as a participant.

In a direct address to his supporters and the media, Dhawan confirmed that his management team is currently initiating legal proceedings to address the unauthorized use of his identity. He urged the public to exercise caution regarding any promotional material or announcements concerning his participation that have not been officially sanctioned by him or his representatives.

Clarifying the Situation and Career Legacy

The 38-year-old emphasized that he has not authorized any association with the event, aiming to resolve the confusion surrounding his alleged involvement. By speaking out, the former opener sought to ensure that fans and journalists do not rely on unverified claims or misleading reports circulating about his future playing commitments.

Dhawan, who recently concluded a distinguished career representing India across all three formats, remains a highly recognizable figure in the sport. His international record includes 167 appearances in One-Day Internationals, where he accumulated 6,793 runs at an average of 44.1, featuring 17 centuries and 39 half-centuries. His contributions in the longest format were equally notable, with 2,315 runs scored in 34 Test matches at an average of 40.6, including seven centuries.

In the shortest format of the game, the left-handed batter played 68 T20 Internationals for his country, scoring 1,759 runs at an average of 27.9 with 11 half-centuries to his name. Given his significant profile in the cricketing world, Dhawan’s statement serves as a definitive warning against the misuse of his reputation by unauthorized entities.
