Ravindra Jadeja makes history by claiming his 350th Test wicket, entering an exclusive group with Kapil, Botham, and Vettori.

Ravindra Jadeja has etched his name in cricket history by becoming only the fourth player to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring over 4,000 runs and taking more than 350 wickets in Test cricket. This milestone was reached on the third day of the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle, where he secured his 350th wicket, dismissing Keshara Nuwantha. The wicket came when Nuwantha attempted a slap-drive off an away-turning delivery, only for the ball to deflect off his knee and be caught by Shubman Gill.

With this achievement, Jadeja joins an elite group of Indian cricketers, becoming the fifth to reach the 350-wicket mark. He now stands alongside legends such as Anil Kumble, who leads with 619 wickets, followed by Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev, and Harbhajan Singh, who have 537, 434, and 417 wickets, respectively. In the ongoing match, Jadeja had earlier contributed 13 runs to India's first innings total of 462, before making a significant impact with the ball as Sri Lanka struggled to 243 for 7 in their response.

Jadeja's latest accomplishment places him in the company of three iconic all-rounders: Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, and Daniel Vettori. Among this distinguished group, Kapil holds the record for the most runs, having scored 5,248 runs alongside his 434 wickets in 131 Tests. Botham, the English cricketing great, amassed 5,200 runs and 383 wickets in 102 Tests, while Vettori, the former New Zealand captain, recorded 4,531 runs and 362 wickets in 113 matches. Jadeja, with 4,108 runs and 350 wickets in just 90 Tests, is the only one to achieve this double before reaching the century mark in matches, highlighting his exceptional efficiency as an all-rounder.

Jadeja's consistent performance with both bat and ball has solidified his status as one of India's most valuable Test players over the last decade. His ability to contribute crucial runs from the lower order while maintaining control as a spinner has been instrumental in balancing the Indian team. Among left-arm spinners with at least 125 Test wickets, only South Africa's Keshav Maharaj boasts a better strike rate than Jadeja's 58.1, with Maharaj at 56.4.
