Sri Lanka has officially appointed
This upcoming assignment in Pakistan, which begins on November 9, represents a significant milestone for Mendis as he takes the helm of the Test side for the first time. The series, hosted in Rawalpindi and Lahore, is a critical component of the ongoing ICC
Squad Changes and New Faces
The 15-member touring party features a mix of experience and fresh talent. Pathum Nissanka has been included in the squad, though his participation remains subject to his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained during last month's ODI series against England. In a boost to the bowling attack, left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka makes his return to the side, joined by Eshan Malinga, who has earned a spot in the touring group.
The selectors have also opted to include uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Anjala Bandara. The 22-year-old earns his call-up following a prolific run in first-class cricket, where he has accumulated 2,239 runs across 46 innings at an impressive average of 65.85. His domestic record includes seven centuries and seven half-centuries, with a top score of an unbeaten 200. Conversely, the squad announcement sees the omission of opener Lahiru Udara and wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella.
Context for the WTC Campaign
Both teams enter this series looking to reverse recent fortunes. Pakistan is aiming to recover from a difficult period, most notably a 0-3 series defeat against England in the UK. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is looking to regain momentum after a 0-1 home series loss to India, though they will take confidence from the draw secured in the second Test of that series. The squad for the Pakistan tour is completed by Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis, Sonal Dinusha, Keshara Nuwantha, Prabath Jayasuriya, Milan Rathnayaka, Lahiru Kumara, and Asitha Fernando.
