A Record-Breaking Display in Guwahati
The innings marks a significant milestone in West Indies cricket history, as Campbell’s 65-ball effort is now the fastest ODI century recorded by a West Indies batter against India. He surpassed the previous record held by Ricardo Powell, who reached the mark in 72 balls in Singapore in 1999. Earlier in the same match, Campbell also eclipsed Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest half-century by a West Indies player against India, achieving the feat in just 29 balls.
The match saw several changes to the team lineups. India handed an ODI debut to pace bowler Auqib Nabi, who replaced allrounder Nitish Reddy to bolster the home side's pace attack. The West Indies were forced into four changes, most notably the absence of Justin Greaves, who was ruled out due to a calf injury after his maiden century in the first match. Keacy Carty stepped in to open alongside Campbell, while Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, and Vitel Lawes were also brought into the starting XI. Jewel Andrew, Matthew Forde, and Gudakesh Motie were omitted from the side.
