Addressing the media ahead of the domestic final, Kishan highlighted the necessity of mental discipline when switching roles. He noted that while moving from the patience required in a Test match to the aggressive demands of T20 cricket is inherently difficult, it is a challenge he and his teammates are accustomed to navigating. Kishan stated that having played extensive domestic and international cricket, he is confident in his ability to adjust his mindset and physical preparation accordingly.
Varma, who serves as India’s T20I vice-captain, echoed these sentiments. He acknowledged that the two-day break between the conclusion of the final and the start of the international series would be tight, but he expressed confidence that the available practice time would be sufficient. Both players emphasized that as professionals, they must remain mindful of their upcoming commitments and prioritize recovery and preparation without seeking excuses for the demanding calendar.
South Zone bolstered by Padikkal
As the Duleep Trophy final approaches, South Zone has received a significant boost with the inclusion of Devdutt Padikkal. Coming off a successful Test series in Sri Lanka where he accumulated 328 runs across three innings and secured the Player of the Series award, Padikkal is expected to play a pivotal role in the final.
Varma confirmed that Padikkal is slated to bat at number three, noting that his current form and recent experience will provide a substantial advantage to the team. The South Zone skipper expressed optimism that Padikkal’s presence would not only strengthen the batting order but also serve as a valuable resource for the younger players in the squad. The final, which also features Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, remains a key focus for the players before they shift their attention to the upcoming white-ball series.
