Charani leads clinical bowling display

India Women secured their place in the semi-finals of the Asian Games Women's Cricket Competition with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Japan at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin. After winning the toss and electing to field, India’s bowlers wasted no time in asserting control over the contest, dismantling the Japanese batting lineup for just 57 runs in 19.5 overs.

The architect of the collapse was Sree Charani, who delivered a masterful spell to finish with figures of 4/10 from her four overs. Japan struggled to find any momentum against the disciplined Indian attack. Ayaka Kato Stafford provided the only real resistance, anchoring the innings with 25 runs off 47 balls, while Haruna Iwasaki contributed 10 runs from 22 deliveries. Despite these efforts, the Japanese side was unable to build substantial partnerships, and the Indian bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings to ensure the target remained well within reach.

Verma’s explosive chase seals victory

Chasing a modest target of 58 for a spot in the final four, India faced a brief moment of tension early in their reply. The side lost two quick wickets, with the turning point occurring when G Kamalini fell with the score at 17 in just 1.2 overs. However, any hopes of a Japanese comeback were swiftly extinguished by Shafali Verma.

Verma took the attack to the opposition, playing with characteristic aggression to race to 40 runs off just 15 balls. Her blistering cameo ensured that India reached the target of 59 in quick fashion, finishing the match at 59/2. Supported by Richa Ghosh, Verma’s performance turned a potentially tricky chase into a comfortable stroll, confirming India’s progression in the tournament. With the win, India moves forward in the Asian Games, while Japan’s campaign comes to an end in the quarter-final stage.
