As India gears up to mark a significant milestone in cricket history, the team is set to play its 600th Test match against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium. This historic encounter, commencing on Saturday, coincides with India’s 80th Independence Day, adding an extra layer of significance to the occasion. Galle, known for its picturesque setting by the Indian Ocean and the presence of a 17th-century Portuguese fort, is also celebrating its own milestone by hosting its 50th Test match, making it a fitting venue for this landmark event.

Since their inaugural Test at Lord’s in 1932, India has played a total of 399 matches, securing 186 victories, suffering 188 defeats, and drawing 224, with one notable tie. With only nine Tests remaining before the conclusion of the current World Test Championship cycle, Gill emphasized the urgency of their situation, noting, “The main goal is to play the WTC final next year. We probably need to win six or seven of our remaining Tests to have a good chance.”
