India Defends Asian Games Cricket Gold with Victory Over Pakistan

India successfully defended their Asian Games men's cricket title on Saturday, overcoming Pakistan by 19 runs in a high-scoring final at Korogi Sports Park. The victory was underpinned by a dominant batting display that saw India post an imposing total of 211 for 6, followed by a composed bowling performance that stifled Pakistan’s pursuit of the gold medal.

The foundation for the win was laid during a blistering Powerplay, where India raced to 81 for 2. Abhishek Sharma spearheaded the early onslaught, dismantling the Pakistan bowling attack with a spectacular 61 off just 28 deliveries. His aggressive knock featured seven sixes and three boundaries, setting a frantic pace that Pakistan struggled to contain. While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added a quick 15, the middle period saw a brief lull as Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer were dismissed for 20 and 21 respectively. Pakistan’s Arafat Minhas proved the most effective bowler, returning figures of 2 for 25.

Late-Innings Surge Secures Gold

India regained their momentum in the closing stages of the innings, thanks to a vital partnership between Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube. The duo accelerated significantly, putting on 62 runs in just five overs. Varma remained unbeaten on 51 from 22 balls, while Dube provided valuable support with 27 from 15. This late-order surge, which saw India accumulate 69 runs in the final four overs, pushed the total beyond reach for their opponents.

Chasing 212 for victory, Pakistan faced immediate pressure from the Indian bowling unit. Washington Sundar provided the initial breakthrough by removing Sahibzada Farhan, and Axar Patel further tightened the grip by claiming the wickets of Usman Khan and Maaz Sadaqat. By the end of the Powerplay, Pakistan was reeling at 39 for 3. Although Hasan Nawaz offered significant resistance with a spirited 96 from 51 balls and Saim Ayub chipped in with 29, the required run rate proved too steep. Shivam Dube’s dismissal of Ayub and Washington Sundar’s removal of Abdul Samad effectively ended Pakistan's hopes of a comeback. Despite a late flurry of boundaries, including a six from Saad Masood, Pakistan fell short, confirming India’s successful retention of their Asian Games crown.
