Haris Rauf Fined for On-Field Altercation During Pakistan's ODI Win Over England

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following an on-field confrontation during Sunday's ODI against England in Lahore. The pacer was fined 20 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point after being found in breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.

The incident took place late in Pakistan's innings, specifically after the 46th over, while Rauf was stationed at the non-striker's end. Following an appeal for a wide, Rauf engaged in a heated verbal exchange with England all-rounder Will Jacks. Despite receiving a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Rauf continued the argument and subsequently brushed past the official while moving toward Jacks.

Disciplinary Actions and Match Context

The ICC confirmed that Rauf’s actions violated Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which pertains to conduct contrary to the spirit of the game. This penalty marks his third offence within a 24-month period, bringing his total to five demerit points. Alongside the individual sanction, England's team was also penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate, finishing three overs behind the required target even after accounting for time allowances. Consequently, each England player was fined 15 per cent of their match fee under Article 2.22.

Both Rauf and England captain Harry Brook accepted the proposed sanctions from match referee Jeff Crowe, negating the need for a formal hearing. The charges were levelled by the officiating team, including on-field umpires Rashid Riaz and Sharfuddoula, third umpire Wayne Knights, and fourth umpire Nassir Hussain.

The disciplinary developments occurred against the backdrop of a thrilling one-wicket victory for Pakistan. Shadab Khan anchored the chase with an unbeaten century, eventually sharing an unbroken 89-run partnership with Rauf for the final wicket. This decisive stand secured the win with 17 balls to spare, confirming Pakistan's spot in the upcoming ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka, scheduled for October 31.
