With a massive overall lead of 584 runs and five wickets remaining in their second innings, East Zone has effectively batted South Zone out of the contest.
The day began with South Zone attempting to narrow the 372-run deficit left by East Zone’s imposing first-innings total of 708. Despite a resilient effort from captain Tilak Varma, South Zone was eventually dismissed for 336, leaving them with a mountain to climb as the match heads into its final day.
Tilak Varma Falls Short as South Zone Bowled Out
South Zone resumed the day at 242 for six, with Tilak Varma anchoring the innings on 56. The captain displayed immense patience, facing 211 deliveries in a determined knock of 99. His defensive approach was vital in guiding his side past the 300-run mark, though he ultimately fell just one run shy of a century. The innings concluded when he attempted to take on off-spinner Kounain Quraishi, only to return a catch to the bowler.
While the dismissal was a personal disappointment for Varma, who had scored a century in the previous week's semifinal, it signaled the end of South Zone's resistance. The side was bundled out for 336, handing East Zone a significant 372-run advantage heading into the second innings.
Kishan Dominates as East Zone Tightens Grip
Following his spectacular 270 in the first innings, Ishan Kishan continued his exceptional form with the bat. The left-hander adopted an aggressive stance from the start, launching a six off Tripurana Vijay over mid-wicket to signal his intent. Kishan’s attacking display included a blistering sequence against Vijay, where he struck four, six, six, and four in four consecutive deliveries.
Kishan’s 80-run knock was bolstered by a 146-run partnership for the third wicket with Shikhar Mohan.
