Yuvraj Samra Century Powers Canada to Victory Over Nepal

Samra Leads Canada to Competitive Total

Canada secured a hard-fought 24-run victory against Nepal in Match 138 of the ICC CWC League 2 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Canada relied on a masterful century from Yuvraj Samra to post a competitive total of 256 all out in their allotted 50 overs.

Samra was the cornerstone of the Canadian innings, anchoring the side with a composed 105 off 117 balls. His ability to rotate the strike and find the boundary kept the scoreboard moving despite consistent pressure from the Nepalese bowling attack. Aaron Johnson provided valuable support at the top of the order, contributing 36 runs off 53 deliveries to help stabilize the innings after early pressure.

Nepal’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Lalit Rajbanshi, who proved difficult to get away throughout his spell. Rajbanshi finished with impressive figures of 4/39 from his 10 overs, consistently taking wickets at crucial intervals to prevent Canada from building a more imposing total. Despite his efforts, Canada managed to push their score past the 250-run mark, setting a challenging target for the chase.

Nepal Fall Short in Disciplined Chase

Chasing 257 for victory, Nepal faced an immediate setback when they lost an early wicket. The momentum shifted decisively in Canada's favor when Aasif Sheikh fell at 37 in the 6.5 overs, leaving the batting side under significant pressure to rebuild. While Arjun Kumal played a valiant knock, scoring 87 off 112 balls, he lacked the necessary support to steer his team home.

Dipendra Singh Airee attempted to accelerate the scoring alongside Kumal, but the Canadian bowling unit remained disciplined, refusing to offer easy scoring opportunities. As the required run rate climbed, Nepal struggled to maintain the necessary tempo, eventually being bowled out for 232. The collective effort from the Canadian bowlers, supported by a notable performance from Sukhjinder Singh, ensured that the target remained out of reach for the opposition.

The victory marks a significant result for Canada in the ongoing ICC CWC League 2 series. While Lalit Rajbanshi’s four-wicket haul was the standout individual performance for Nepal, it was ultimately Yuvraj Samra’s century that proved the difference between the two sides in this tightly contested encounter.
