In a significant development for domestic cricket, 15-year-old batting prodigy
The appointment marks the latest chapter in a rapid ascent for the young batter, who has already made waves on both the IPL and international stages. Suraj Kashyap has been designated as the vice-captain to support the leadership transition. BCA president Harsh Vardhan expressed his confidence in the youngster, citing the maturity and talent Sooryavanshi has consistently demonstrated during his early career as the primary reasons for the appointment.
A Rapid Rise to Leadership
Sooryavanshi’s elevation to the captaincy follows a series of high-profile performances that have established him as one of the most exciting young prospects in Indian cricket. His aggressive batting style gained national attention during his stint with the Rajasthan Royals in the 2026 IPL, where he proved capable of dominating experienced bowling attacks. This domestic form paved the way for his international debut, where he continued to showcase his attacking instincts.
Most recently, the teenager gained widespread acclaim for his role in a record-breaking opening partnership during the third T20 International against New Zealand. Opening the batting with Abhishek Sharma, Sooryavanshi helped set the highest powerplay score in men's T20 International history, as the duo smashed 118 runs in the first six overs. Their partnership eventually reached 133 runs from just 43 balls, with Sooryavanshi contributing 45 runs off 19 deliveries.
