BCCI Confirms Collective Decision Behind Women's Team Refusing Asia Cup Trophy from ACC Chief

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Indian women's cricket team’s refusal to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi was a calculated, collective decision. Following the team's 72-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final in Dubai on Sunday, the squad opted not to receive the silverware from the ACC head, a move that has drawn significant attention.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla addressed the matter upon the team's arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday. He stated that the board had deliberated on the issue internally before the ceremony and reached a consensus to bypass the traditional presentation involving Naqvi. According to Shukla, the ACC chairman did not voice any opposition to the decision, allowing the presentation to proceed through alternative arrangements before he departed the venue.

Despite this, the BCCI maintains that it remains committed to government policy regarding participation in multinational tournaments. Saikia clarified that while the board continues to fulfill its obligations to compete against all nations in global events, it does not feel compelled to adhere to every ceremonial condition presented to them. The women’s team’s actions were described as an expression of solidarity with the precedent set by the men's squad last year.
