2010 Redux - The rivalry itself has history. The two sides first met at the Asian Games in 2010, when cricket made its debut at this competition, and Bangladesh won that day and powered into the finals, a result the Lankans have not forgotten. They crossed paths again in 2014, but the weather had the final say and the match ended without a result. Rain has been the unwelcome guest at this tournament this year as well, but today the radar looks far kinder than it has all week, so fingers crossed this one gets the full contest it deserves. Bronze medal, old scores, one final chance.

History, Heartbreak, and Bronze - For Bangladesh, the motivation runs deep. They stood on the podium in Hangzhou in 2022, beating Pakistan in the third-place match, and repeating that result today would cement them as regulars in the Asian Games medal rounds, something that matters well beyond a single tournament. For Sri Lanka, winless at this edition, this is the last chance to claim a medal and wash away the sting of Thursday's catastrophe.

A medal to salvage - Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will meet with a Bronze medal at stake, with both sides looking to finish the Asian Games 2026 on a positive note after contrasting semi-final disappointments. Bangladesh are appearing in the Bronze medal match for the second successive Games, having beaten Pakistan to claim third place in Hangzhou in 2023, while Sri Lanka have already gone a step further than their quarter-final exit at the previous edition. What could have been? For Bangladesh, there will be a sense of what might have been. After the quarter-final against Malaysia was washed out, they earned a semi-final against Pakistan, where a place in the gold medal match was genuinely within reach. In a contest reduced to 13 overs a side, they recovered from 21/3 to post 111/7, with Towhid Hridoy's 42 off 25 leading the fightback. They then had Pakistan in trouble at 53/4, but the game slipped away in the final stages, with Abdul Samad taking apart Mustafizur Rahman for 23 in the 10th over. Mustafizur conceded 41 from his two overs as Pakistan completed the chase with nine balls to spare. A response needed with the bat - Bangladesh's batting will once again be central to their hopes. Hridoy showed in the semi-final that he can provide the acceleration needed in a shortened contest, while the likes of Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, Saif Hassan and Mosaddek Hossain give the side plenty of experience through the order. With Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed offering options with the ball, Bangladesh have the variety to exploit conditions that have generally offered something to the spinners at Nisshin. Sri Lanka need to put the semi-final behind - Sri Lanka's semi-final was a far more one-sided affair. Their bowlers actually gave themselves something to work with against India, using the slow conditions effectively as the defending champions were restricted to 169/7. But the chase quickly unravelled, with Sri Lanka bowled out for just 45 in 9.5 overs. Ten batters were dismissed for single figures, while three run-outs underlined just how badly the chase fell apart under pressure. That collapse cannot simply be carried into another knockout match. Sahan Arachchige's side has several players capable of making an impact, with Ashen Bandara, Lasith Croospulle and Nuwanidu Fernando providing batting options, while Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Tharindu Ratnayake and Nuwan Thushara give them a varied bowling attack. The squad also includes experienced campaigners such as Chamika Karunaratne, meaning they have enough resources to recover from the disappointment of the semi-final. Weather watch - The weather has finally offered some encouragement after a frustrating start to the knockouts. All four quarter-finals were washed out, but we did eventually get some cricket in the semi-finals, albeit in shortened contests, with a wet outfield affecting one game and India's dominance bringing the other to an early finish. The forecast for finals day looks far more promising, though, and hopefully the rain stays away to give us full contests in both the Bronze Medal and Gold Medal matches. Form (Last 5 completed T20Is, most recent first) - BAN - LWWLL | SL - LLLLL. One last chance for a medal - The Bronze medal offers both teams an opportunity to salvage something from a campaign that promised more. Bangladesh will draw confidence from their ability to push Pakistan close, but must avoid another costly lapse if they are to repeat their podium finish from 2023. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, need to show that the 45 all out was an aberration rather than a reflection of their batting capabilities. At the Korogi Sports Park, with a medal on the line, the side that handles the pressure better could well leave Nisshin with something to celebrate.
