Eagles Rule Out DeVonta Smith and Zack Baun for Rams Clash

The Philadelphia Eagles face a significant personnel challenge heading into Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, with both wide receiver DeVonta Smith and linebacker Zack Baun officially ruled out. The absence of these two key contributors creates a notable void on both sides of the ball as the team prepares to face one of the league's most potent offenses.

Smith, who participated in every offensive snap during Monday's defeat to the Chicago Bears, was unable to practice throughout the week due to a lingering hamstring issue. His absence compounds the team's offensive struggles, as quarterback Jalen Hurts will also be without tight end Dallas Goedert, who remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Adjusting the Roster for Sunday

In the wake of Smith's unavailability, Dontayvion Wicks is slated to step into the primary receiver role. Wicks expressed readiness for the increased responsibility, noting that he maintains the necessary confidence to lead the receiving corps. The team is also expected to rely on rookie Makai Lemon and Darius Cooper, both of whom are projected to see expanded playing time as the Eagles look to compensate for the missing production.

On the defensive side, the loss of Baun is equally impactful. The Pro Bowl linebacker, who played 92% of the defensive snaps against Chicago before exiting with a concussion, has been a cornerstone of the Philadelphia defense over the past two seasons. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who replaced Baun late in the previous contest, is expected to start opposite Jihaad Campbell. Trotter emphasized his commitment to preparation, stating that his focus is on ensuring he is not a liability and is fully capable of contributing to a team victory against a Rams offense currently averaging 418 yards per game.
