Tanzid Hasan Tamim makes history in Australia by scoring an impressive first Test century.

In a remarkable achievement for Bangladesh cricket, opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim made history on Friday by becoming the first player from his nation to score a Test century on Australian soil. The 25-year-old left-handed batsman reached this milestone during the second day of the first Test in a two-match series against Australia, held at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin.

Tanzid's maiden Test century came off 188 balls, showcasing his skill and determination as Bangladesh sought to respond after Australia was bowled out for 198 on the first day. He ultimately scored 101 runs from 197 deliveries, which included eight boundaries and a six. This century not only marked a personal triumph for Tanzid but also represented Bangladesh's first Test hundred away from home since Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 137 against South Africa in 2022.

Bangladesh Takes Control

The significance of Tanzid's innings was further underscored by the fact that it was only the second Test century by a Bangladeshi player against Australia, following Shahriar Nafees's 138 in 2006. His performance helped propel Bangladesh to a strong position, as they reached 238 for 3 after 67 overs, establishing a 40-run lead over the hosts.

Bangladesh's impressive start was complemented by Hasan Mahmud's outstanding bowling performance on the opening day. Hasan claimed six wickets for 55 runs, leading to Australia's total of 198, which is their lowest Test score against Bangladesh since 2017. This achievement surpassed Mohammad Rafique's previous best figures of 5 for 62 against Australia, further solidifying Hasan's reputation as a formidable bowler in challenging conditions.

Milestones for Taskin Ahmed

In addition to Tanzid's historic innings, Taskin Ahmed reached a significant career milestone during the match, becoming the sixth Bangladeshi bowler to take 300 international wickets. He finished with figures of 2 for 55, bringing his total to 300 wickets from 204 matches, including 13 four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket performances. Taskin's achievement places him among the top wicket-takers in Bangladesh's cricket history, trailing only five other bowlers.

With Tanzid's groundbreaking century and a dominant bowling display, Bangladesh has positioned itself strongly in the first Test, setting the stage for a competitive series against Australia.
