Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expresses pride in team spirit despite losing to Australia in a two-day Test match.

Bangladesh's cricket captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, expressed optimism about his team's performance during their recent Test series in Australia, despite facing a significant defeat in Mackay. He highlighted the resilience shown by his players and the effectiveness of the fast bowlers, while emphasizing the need for more frequent exposure to Australian playing conditions to foster improvement.

A Historic Achievement Amidst Challenges

In a remarkable turn of events, Bangladesh secured their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil during the first Test held in Darwin, marking a significant milestone for the team after 23 years. However, the Australian side retaliated decisively in Mackay, winning the second Test by an innings and 51 runs, thus leveling the two-match series at 1-1. Following the match, Shanto reflected on the series, stating, "It is a very proud moment as a team. We showed our character and discipline in the first Test. Consistency is key, and I believe that if we get more opportunities to play in similar conditions, it will greatly benefit our development." He underscored the importance of not waiting decades between matches in Australia, advocating for annual opportunities to compete in such challenging environments.

Shanto acknowledged the formidable nature of the Australian team, admitting, "We all know how good they are. They demonstrated their character, and as a Bangladesh Test team, we did not perform at our best." He noted that the conditions in Mackay presented greater challenges compared to Darwin, with increased movement in the air and additional bounce, which made batting particularly difficult. "To progress, we must adapt to these conditions, and I hope this experience will aid us in the future," he added.

Starc's Dominance and Bangladesh's Resilience

The Australian fast bowlers showcased their prowess throughout the match, with Mitchell Starc claiming six wickets for just 12 runs, leading to Bangladesh's first innings collapse at a mere 64 runs. Pat Cummins also contributed significantly with three wickets. Bangladesh managed to regroup in their bowling effort, with Shoriful Islam achieving impressive figures of 7 for 48, helping to dismiss Australia for 210 and securing a 146-run lead.

However, Bangladesh struggled once more in their second innings, being bowled out for 95. Starc added four more wickets to his tally, while Cummins and Nathan Lyon each took three. Najmul Hossain Shanto emerged as the top scorer for Bangladesh with 31 runs, while Mushfiqur Rahim remained not out on 29. Despite the loss, Shanto expressed satisfaction with the performance of the pace attack, stating, "It was challenging for all the batters. The way Shoriful, Taskin, and Hasan bowled was commendable, especially on such a difficult wicket." He concluded by noting that Bangladesh could take several positives from the series, including their historic win in Darwin and the standout performances of their fast bowlers.
