Sutherland dominates with the ball

Australia Women opened their three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in clinical fashion at Allan Border Field in Brisbane, securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Australian attack dismantled the Bangladesh lineup, restricting the visitors to 166 all out in 49.4 overs. The foundation for the win was laid by Annabel Sutherland, who produced a standout bowling performance to finish with figures of 4/30 from her 9.4 overs. Supported by disciplined efforts from the rest of the attack, including Megan Schutt, Australia ensured the target remained well within reach.

Bangladesh struggled to build momentum throughout their innings. Ritu Moni provided the most resistance, top-scoring with 45 off 63 balls, while captain Nigar Sultana contributed 29 from 86 deliveries. Despite their efforts to anchor the innings, the Australian bowlers maintained consistent pressure, preventing any significant partnerships from taking the game away from the hosts.

Litchfield steers the chase

Chasing 167 for victory, Australia faced an early setback when Georgia Voll fell with the score at 30 in 5.1 overs. However, any hopes of a Bangladesh fightback were quickly extinguished by Phoebe Litchfield. Playing with composure and aggression, Litchfield dominated the bowling to record a fluent 77 off just 57 balls. Her innings effectively took the game out of reach for the visitors, allowing Australia to cruise toward the target.

Litchfield found a reliable partner in Ellyse Perry, who helped steady the ship and ensure there were no further alarms during the chase. The pair navigated the middle overs with ease, keeping the required run rate under control. Australia reached the winning total of 168/3, wrapping up the match with time to spare. The victory gives Australia a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the performance highlighting the depth of their squad in both departments. The two sides will now look ahead to the second ODI, with Bangladesh needing a significant turnaround to challenge the hosts.
