Arshdeep Singh reveals romantic inspiration behind unique wicket celebration

Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has shed light on the personal story behind his eye-catching wicket celebration during the opening ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park. The left-arm pacer, who produced a standout performance with the ball, revealed that the dance move was a dedicated gesture for his girlfriend, actor-model Samreen Kaur.

Speaking during the innings break, Arshdeep explained that the celebration was inspired by lighthearted moments the couple shares to boost one another's morale. He noted that the specific steps are something they perform together when they are out walking, serving as a way to lift their spirits whenever they are feeling down. By bringing the routine to the cricket pitch, the bowler ensured his significant other was part of his success on the international stage.

A dominant display with the ball

Arshdeep’s celebration followed the dismissal of New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson, who was safely caught by Virat Kohli. The pacer was the standout performer for the visitors, finishing his 10-over spell with impressive figures of 4/70. His efforts were instrumental in dismantling the New Zealand batting lineup, which was eventually bowled out for 185 in 40.2 overs. He received valuable support from teammates Gurnoor Brar, who claimed three wickets, and Anshul Kamboj, who chipped in with two.

India secures series lead

The chase began with a minor hurdle as captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck. However, Virat Kohli steadied the innings with a fluent 74 off 51 balls, forming a vital 113-run partnership with Shubman Gill, who contributed 37. Although rain interruptions forced a revision of the target to 143 in 32 overs under the DLS method, India remained in control throughout the pursuit.

The visitors reached the revised target of 143/5 in 22.4 overs, securing a five-wicket victory with 56 balls to spare. This result gives India a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. While the team’s collective performance ensured a positive start to the tour, Arshdeep’s four-wicket haul and his candid post-match revelation provided a memorable narrative to the opening encounter.
