PV Sindhu's 'Centre of Sports Excellence' in Visakhapatnam has officially begun with the laying of its foundation stone.

PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, has taken a significant step towards nurturing future sporting talent in India by laying the foundation stone for the 'Centre of Sports Excellence' in Visakhapatnam. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, with Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh officiating the event in the Arilova area, where the facility is set to be constructed. Sindhu, who has dedicated over a decade to badminton at the highest level, expressed her enthusiasm for this initiative aimed at giving back to the sport that has shaped her life.

During the ceremony, Sindhu shared her excitement with the media, stating, "I am very happy and very excited. Today, we had this 'Bhumi Puja' and foundation stone-laying ceremony, and it gives me great pleasure." She acknowledged the presence of various dignitaries, including Lokesh and other government officials, and emphasized her commitment to fostering a new generation of athletes. "I hope I inspire a lot of kids out there, and I hope to see a lot of girls and boys from here bring glory to the state as well as the nation," she added.

As a deputy collector in the Andhra Pradesh government, Sindhu has been allocated land for the sports facility. She articulated her desire to create a competitive environment that encourages young athletes. "I have learned a lot from sports, and sport has given me so much in my life. I think it is time to give back to the sport now," she remarked, highlighting the abundance of talent in the region.

The Centre of Sports Excellence will promote seven different sports, with a focus on identifying talent based on rankings and individual aptitude. Sindhu explained that young athletes will initially explore various sports before specializing as they grow older. "We will assess their abilities and foundation, and we have experts available. We will have world-class coaches as well and will take it forward accordingly," she noted.

Reflecting on her extensive experience in badminton, Sindhu acknowledged the challenges of becoming a champion. "Not everybody can become an Olympic champion. Some people might take a long time to achieve success, while others might achieve it very early. But the most important part is that you need to have that belief and support," she advised aspiring athletes.

Looking ahead, Sindhu expressed hope that the grand opening of the facility will be attended by prominent figures, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. She concluded, "It will be my great pleasure to build a great sports institute with the support of the Andhra government and the Sports Authority of India (SAI)." This initiative marks a pivotal moment in Sindhu's journey as she aims to inspire and cultivate the next generation of sporting champions in India.
