BAI Secretary General Sanjay Mishra addressed these concerns during the draw ceremony for the World Championships, stating that all identified issues have been thoroughly resolved. "We've worked on every issue that came up then, and I'm happy to say those problems have been resolved completely. I'm confident this will be one of the best World Championships ever," he remarked to PTI.
Mishra expressed gratitude towards the Sports Ministry and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for their diligent efforts in preparing the venue. Under the leadership of BAI President Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, preparations are reportedly on track. He noted that the India Open served as a crucial "test event," allowing organizers to pinpoint and rectify shortcomings ahead of the World Championships.
Renovation Highlights
According to Mishra, the renovations at the stadium are comprehensive, with significant upgrades to the walls, toilets, and flooring. Additionally, a team of Malaysian lighting experts has been enlisted to enhance the court lighting. "The biggest change is the complete renovation of the stadium. The walls, toilets, and floors have all been refurbished," he explained. While there were no major complaints about the lighting during the India Open, the BAI has opted to bring in top-tier experts to ensure optimal conditions for the upcoming championships.
Once the lighting system is installed, it will undergo inspection and approval by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) before the final adjustments are made. Mishra is optimistic that attendees and players alike will notice a remarkable transformation in the stadium compared to its previous state during the India Open.
