The opening game saw a tense exchange as Srikanth recovered from an early 3-7 deficit to level the score at 8-8, capitalising on a series of unforced errors from Lai. Although the Canadian entered the mid-game interval with a two-point lead and extended it to 15-11, Srikanth responded with a surge of aggression. By forcing errors at the net and utilizing his cross-court smash, the Indian leveled at 15-15 before pulling away to secure three game points. He converted his second opportunity to take the lead.
The second game followed a similar narrative, with Srikanth again forced to play catch-up after falling behind 5-9. He steadily reduced the gap, moving from 9-14 to 13-14 through a combination of attacking returns and disciplined net play. As the game reached its climax at 18-18, Srikanth’s persistence forced Lai into consecutive errors, allowing the Indian to close out the match in straight games. He is now set to face Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in the next round.
Mixed Results for Indian Contingent
While Srikanth advanced, other Indian campaigns came to an end in Shenzhen. Tanvi Sharma, fresh from her recent success at the Taipei Open, pushed world No. 9 Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan to three games but ultimately fell 17-21, 21-18, 16-21 in a competitive second-round encounter. In the mixed doubles category, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto were eliminated after a 18-21, 18-21 defeat against the Chinese Taipei pair of Liu Kuang Heng and Hsu Yin Hui.
