Indian badminton players Anmol Kharb and Tanvi Sharma successfully navigated their opening-round matches at the Korea Open Super 500 in Yeosu on Wednesday. Both athletes secured their progression into the second round of the women's singles draw following hard-fought victories against international opponents.

Anmol Kharb, who recently showcased her form by reaching the semifinals at the Hylo Open, continued her momentum by overcoming Canada's Rachel Chan. The match concluded in straight games with a 21-19, 21-18 scoreline. This victory sets up a challenging second-round encounter for the Indian against the tournament's second seed, Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

Mixed Fortunes for Indian Contingent

Tanvi Sharma also advanced after a demanding three-game battle against Japan's Manami Suizu. After claiming the opening game 21-16, Sharma conceded the second 12-21 before regaining her composure to seal the match with a 21-17 victory in the decider. Having previously claimed the Taipei Open Super 300 title, Sharma now looks ahead to her next match, where she will face either Japan's fifth seed Hina Akechi or China's Xu Wen Jing.

While the women's singles campaign saw success, the men's singles draw proved difficult for HS Prannoy. The 2023 world championship bronze medallist was unable to progress past the first round, falling to South Korea's Yoo Tae Bin in straight games, 15-21, 21-23. The disappointment extended to the mixed doubles event, where the Indian duo of Dhruv and Maneesha were narrowly defeated by the seventh-seeded Chinese pair, Zhu Yi Jun and Li Qian. The match was a tightly contested affair that ended 22-20, 12-21, 22-24 in favor of the Chinese combination.
