In a significant legal development, the Rouse Avenue District Court in Delhi has acquitted
Following the court's ruling, Singh expressed his gratitude towards his legal team and described the verdict as a moment of joy for himself and his supporters. He stated that he would await the detailed judgment before making further comments. "On the first day, when my first statement came, I had said that if any verdict or any charge is proven, I will hang myself. Today, the court acquitted me with honour. It is a matter of joy for my supporters and me. Today is a happy day," Singh remarked.
Singh's Response to Allegations
Singh reiterated his long-held belief that the allegations against him were part of a conspiracy. "I said this was a conspiracy, and if any of the allegations against me are found to be true, I will hang myself. To this day, I've stood by that statement. Today, after almost three years, the court has honourably acquitted me and Vinod," he stated, referring to former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar, who was also cleared of the charges.
In his comments, Singh emphasized his commitment to advocating for the rights of junior athletes, expressing satisfaction over what he termed a victory in their fight for justice. "I always stood up for those who were weak, those whose rights were violated. I had complete faith that justice would be done to me, and I never felt guilty," he added.
Legal Proceedings and Public Reaction
The Delhi Police had previously filed a chargesheet against Singh, alleging various offenses, including sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. The case stemmed from a protest by female wrestlers at Jantar Mantar, where they raised serious concerns about Singh's conduct during his tenure as WFI chief.
When questioned about the statements made against him by the wrestlers three years ago, Singh indicated that he would address those comments at an appropriate time. He also criticized politicians who had rallied for his punishment, suggesting that they should reflect on their actions. "There were demands for my hanging, demands to burn me alive. Now, those people should introspect. They will be answered when the time comes," he concluded.
