Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his formal congratulations to wrestler Antim Panghal and the Indian women’s golf trio of Pranavi Urs, Aditi Ashok, and Diksha Dagar following their impressive silver medal finishes at the 2026 Asian Games. The Prime Minister’s office shared messages of appreciation, noting the athletes' significant contributions to India’s overall performance at the multi-sport event held in Aichi-Nagoya.

In his commendation for Panghal, the Prime Minister described her efforts in the women’s 53kg freestyle wrestling category as exemplary. The wrestler secured the silver medal after a hard-fought final against Japan’s Moe Kiyooka, which ended in a 1-9 result. This achievement marks a notable progression for the athlete, who previously claimed a bronze medal in the same weight class during the 2022 edition of the Games.

Golfers Secure Historic Individual and Team Success

The women’s golf team also received high praise for their determination and passion, which culminated in a silver medal finish. The team effort was anchored by Pranavi Urs, who produced a standout performance to claim the individual gold medal. With a total score of 15-under 265, the 23-year-old from Mysuru edged out competitors from China and Singapore by a single stroke, becoming the first Indian woman to secure an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games.

In the team competition, where the best two scores from the three participants determined the final standings, India finished with a total of 14-under 546. While China took the gold with a score of 22-under 538, the Indian squad’s silver was bolstered by a final-round 67 from Aditi Ashok, complemented by Diksha Dagar’s performance. The collective success of these athletes contributed to India’s final tally of 85 medals—comprising 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze—which placed the nation fourth in the overall medal standings at the conclusion of the 2026 Asian Games.
